LOOKING FOR ERRORS
“SEARCH ME, O GOD, AND
KNOW MY HEART: TRY ME, AND KNOW MY THOUGHTS: AND SEE IF THERE BE ANY WICKED
WAY IN ME, AND LEAD ME IN THE WAY EVERLASTING.”
Psalm 139:23-24
Once I type something, I go back over it carefully looking for
errors. That may seem to be a
pessimistic way to approach my work, but I know I’m not a perfect typist.
I look for errors, not to condemn and punish myself for my
inefficiency, but so I can find the errors and correct them.
Then I can present my best work.
In Psalm 139, David asked God to search his heart and try his
thoughts, “and see if there be any wicked way in me.”
Why would he want God to pry into his heart and thoughts?
Certainly something would be uncovered that was a fault.
David knew he wasn’t a perfect man.
He wanted God to show him his faults and errors so he could correct
them. Only then could he present
his best work to the Master. The
last phrase of his request is, “and lead me in the way everlasting”.
Let’s make his prayer our prayer today.
CHALLENGE TO CHANGE:
“Am I earnest enough with God to ask Him to search me and show me the
flaws that need fixing? Am I
willing to correct the faults He shows me?”
It is certainly better to know our own faults than for others to know them
and we ourselves be blind to them.
If we are sincere about our walk in the Spirit, we will find joy in
becoming more like Christ, even if it’s painful at times.
