ATTACKING
THE INTRUDER
“(FOR THE WEAPONS OF OUR
WARFARE ARE NOT CARNAL, BUT MIGHTY THROUGH GOD TO THE PULLING DOWN OF
STRONGHOLDS;) CASTING DOWN IMAGINATIONS, AND EVERY HIGH THING THAT EXALTETH
ITSELF AGAINST THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOD, AND BRINGING INTO CAPTIVITY EVERY
THOUGHT TO THE OBEDIENCE OF CHRIST”.
II Corinthians 10:4-5
When I washed my hands
at the sink, I saw in the mirror that I had something in the corner of my
eye. I removed it with my
finger, but must have still had soap residue on it, because suddenly my eye
started to burn and water.
Something foreign in my eye caused an immediate response, and my body acted
automatically to wash out the intruder that brought pain and possible
injury.
We need to be the same way with any “foreign matter” that tries to
enter our thoughts and our lives.
Any impurities, no matter how small, have the potential to cause pain
and injury to us and those around us.
We must attack any intruder just as our bodies react to harmful
substances. Cast down any
thought that lifts itself up against the Word of God.
Allow only what is good to enter your heart and thoughts.
CHALLENGE TO CHANGE:
“How quickly do I deal with worldly or sinful thoughts and attitudes
that try to enter into my heart?
Am I able to detect them early, before they take root?”
Sin that is allowed to remain in our hearts will cause injury to us and
those around us. If it is not in
agreement with the Word of God, it has no place in our hearts.
