My Will, His Will

I will to look into the mirror of my heart,
As I arise each morning to make a new start;
To see if there is hidden any wicked way,
That I might rid it early and start a fresh day.

I will to give up resentment, and think on things good,
To live a God-fearing life the way that I should.
To walk the narrow path You’ve designed for me,
Though my eyes seem held and the way I can’t see.

 Today is the day that I must put attention to.
Today is the day I must start fresh and new.
I can’t hope in tomorrow or hold on to the past;
Those are memories and dreams, and those thing don’t last.

 So, arise, oh my spirit, like the wings of a bird,
To think of God’s promises, have faith in His Word.
Then to humble myself under God’s mighty hand;
To accept wounds and blows as part of His plan.
