It was handed down to you,
This message of our King.
Told by our forefathers
As they let their voices ring.
They told of His great
faithfulness
As they themselves had seen.
How He always brought them through
When their resources were lean.
They retold all of His
miracles
That had been told to them.
How the Israelites became a people
As they were led by Him.
Of how He swore to
Abraham
A nation he would be;
Descendents as the stars of heaven,
Countless as the sand of the sea.
In faith Abraham held
to God’s promise,
In old age brought forth a son.
He knew not how it would come about,
But only that God had begun.
There were Isaac,
Jacob and Joseph,
Great leaders in their day.
And Moses led them from Egypt,
Pharaoh’s cruel rule to stay.
Forty years in the
wilderness,
Led by a cloud by day.
A fire by night He led them
And brought them on their way.
He brought forth water
from the Rock,
By manna they were fed.
He gave them the lands of the nations,
“Now keep My laws” He said.
But they soon forgot
His mighty works.
His anger to provoke.
With heathen women and idols,
They all His precepts broke.
With His anger kindled
against them,
He gave them over to the sword.
They cried to Him for mercy;
Break His covenant, He couldn’t afford.
With loving mercy He forgave them,
The Bible pages say.
As a Father He cares for His children,
And He cares for us today.
Now that we’ve heard
the story,
And others need to know;
We must share with one another,
To help each other grow.
We must tell it to our
children,
Tell it morning, noon and night.
Tell them the plan of salvation,
Of how to walk in the light.
Yes, tell it to your
children,
And your children’s children , too.
Tell of the wondrous works of God
And keep the story new.
