Words - Words - Words

How many words have I spoken today,
Yesterday and the day before?
To how many did I speak them?
Was it dozens or even more?

 What was my conversation;
Do I even have a clue?
Were my words like peals of thunder
Or refreshing drops of dew?

 Did they give someone a heartache?
Did they rather make their day?
Did they give them hope for the future,
Or try to make them pay?

 Do I speak one thing to the beggar,
Another to the king?
Do I secretly make a difference?
What message does it bring?

 We all fail and falter
In this usage we call talk.
We started on this passage
By the time we learned to walk.

 We speak words, oh so freely.
Sometime without a thought;
Ever even realizing
The impact that they brought.

 Words can mold a future,
Or tear somebody down,
Stirring the course of direction
Of a youth their way not found.

 Lighter words can bring some joy,
At time it’s needed laughter;
Wisdom for a season,
Sometimes heeded long time after.

 If only we would think them out.
Yes, this would please the Lord.
The world would be a better place;
Oh! What a great reward.
